Another England: Caroline Lucas talks to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall about her new book.
The right have hijacked Englishness. Can it be reclaimed?
Join us in the Ballroom as Britain’s (so far!) only Green MP, Caroline Lucas, talks about her new book, Another England, in conversation with chef, writer and environmental campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. This thought-provoking book delves deep into our national history and makes a bid to reclaim Englishness from the far-right cheerleaders for exceptionalism and imperial nostalgia.
Caroline will explore what England’s progressive spirit can teach us about the most pressing issues of our time – Empire, constitutional reform and the climate emergency. And she will shine a light on alternative stories that we can all embrace to build a greener, fairer future.
In these timely, passionate and perceptive pages, Lucas – the most inspiring British politician of my lifetime – tells a new story about England and Englishness, and sets out the possibility for a progressive politics of land, place and nation. This is vital reading.’ — ROBERT MACFARLANE, author of Underland and The Lost Words
