Guest Event – ‘Asthall Gardens’ a painting workshop with Kieran Stiles

The use of cold wax makes it possible to adapt the translucency of oil paint. In the same way that watercolour is used in translucent layers, this approach with oils results in a similar appearance of luminosity as the white primed panel surface shines through the pigment.

Working from direct observation outside in the gardens at Asthall, also in the ballroom using reference photographs.

All materials provided, except for some A3 or A4 cartridge paper for notes and preparatory sketches, which you will need to bring, along with some reference images of colourful gardens.
