Landscape of Dreams by Julian and Isabel Bannerman

We are very pleased with the Asthall chapter in Landscape of Dreams, the best-selling book by Julian & Isabel Bannerman, who designed the garden here in 1997-9 and who, according to Ruth Guilding in The Bible of British Taste are “The Bonnie & Clyde of Garden Design”. Far from seeing on form as an alien invader of the garden, the Bannermans write that “The whole raison d’être of the garden is the bi-annual exhibition of sculpture, which Rosie dreamt up with Anthony. It has proved a giant success, and added to the gaiety of the nation.”
